The first one, "Devil", is a story about 5 strangers trapped in a life, and one of them is the Devil. Seriously it reminds me of a game of "Mafia". Light off, light on, someone was killed. Now guess who's the mafia... Then light off, light on again, someone else was killed, now guess who's the mafia again. The best part was when there's 3 person left, I really can feel the tension, cos it reminded me of the classic round of Mafia that I had during the working adult camp last year. Till the last round, there's only 3 person left. Now I am not the mafia, so it got to be either you or you, and all 3 person desperately try all ways to convince the others to believe that they are not the mafia. The scene in the movie was somewhat like that, of course with a twist in the end.
A good surprise in the movie is that it has a very biblical theme about repentance and forgiveness. I truly enjoyed it.
I think "Buried" must be the most low budget movie ever made. It's about an American worker in the Iraq being taken hostage by terrorist, and sealed in a wooden box, buried underground. I kid you not, the entire movie is just like that, a man in a wooden box. For almost 2 hours, you are just watching a man in a wooden box. Just 1 actor, 1 scene.
For the whole 2 hours, I was feeling exactly how he felt, trapped in the cinema... Please end this now and get me out of the cinema. You can hear the fidgeting and small talk of the audiences, even cursing.
But I must salute whoever came out with the idea and the script, he really has extraordinary selling skill to be able to sell something like this to the investor, producer, the crew, the distributor, and the buyer of the cinema. Kudos for that.
Now if you want to test your own patient and acceptance for weird movie, go watch "Buried".
